We heard them loud and clear last year as they screamed hoarse about the need for empowering women in India. In the lead up to Lok Sabha 2014, all political parties told us how they plan to tackle gender equality. And boy did they perform, when it came to taking action during the elections, i.e. giving tickets to women.
Overall, only (8%) of candidates in Lok Sabha 2014 were women and currently just 11% of the parliament is female.
Among the major parties, the range of women candidates was between 5% and 19%. Behenji’s BSP which won zero seats, gave a whopping (5%) of tickets to female candidates. Bastion’s of progressive thinking, Shiv Sena, came in a close second with (7%). BJP’s women candidates snapped up (9%) of all tickets and the Congress (12%) and AAP (13%) followed closely behind.

Given this record, we took the liberty of editing manifestos of some of the top political parties to more accurately resemble their stance on gender equality.

Now watch political parties push for 33% women’s reservation in parliament!

Interesting to see that Trinamool is the best of the lot.
At the other end of the spectrum Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had 0% female candidates.

Makes sense. They say one thing, mean another and take the people for fools who can’t read what is so blatantly and obviously visible between their lines of make believe and pretend promises.
